Sony Reader PRS-505

For an early birthday present, my hubs got me this little gem. I was excited, yet slightly skeptical about this new, electronic reading device (okay, so its not so new, but still...). I've been thinking something like this would be cool ever since I was a kid and packed 3-5 books on our family vacations (taking up a good portion of my backpack "carry on" - we drove, so it was what I was able to keep with me inside the car instead of in the trunk). I've only had it since Wednesday night (got it right after I got off work), but I think that's sufficient time to say I really love this! Yes, I still love the weight of a nice hardcover in my hand and turning the pages... also, being able to just take seconds to flip back to your favorite part 100 previous to the one you are on at the moment (the Reader makes up for this by having "bookmarks"). I have yet to figure out if there is a "go to page #" feature (I don't think there is)... it makes it slow going if someone "starts over" with a book you were currently reading. It does keep a small "history" of what pages you've read on that book, which you could use to go back to that page, though.

I chose this version because I really didn't think I needed all the extras on the newer Sony Reader. *I don't write in the margins of the books I have, why would I do that with an electronic one? I don't need a booklight, especially since most reviews said it was horrible. I don't need extra space for books, when it has an SD card slot. And I could use the $150 saved towards eBooks!* I've been eye-ing this for a while, and since it was on a major sale, Glen got it for me as an early birthday present - isn't he sweet? So far I have a bunch of *free* classics, the draft Stephenie Meyer released of Midnight Sun, and some random *free* books from the Sony/Borders eBook library.

Another interesting fact? I keep going to turn the page, because it really does seem like I'm just reading out of a regular book! The nice part? I can "turn" the "page" with the touch of a button, set it down in a windy room and not worry about losing my place. I can even just shut it off, and when I turn it back on it will be on the exact page that I left off...

battery life?

I just realized I had comments on this post... The battery life is pretty awesome, as I can read this for a about a few hours every day for a couple weeks and THEN it needs to be charged. I think it can be left alone for about a month to a month and a half without going completely dead.
